09.28.03 (5:30 pm) [edit]Follow a color scheme. Your page will be your first impression to people. Don't use a brown page with pink text and think it's cute. Would you go out in public dressed in those colors? They won't look good on a page either.
Do not use low quality graphics just because you want them to load faster on your page. I would much rather wait for it to load than to look at a nice graphic that's saved in a shitty quality. If you want it to load faster, try saving it as a gif or use slices.
Do not use a filter [ie. glow and shadow] on your entire page and think it's cute. No one wants to wait 20 minutes just to scroll down on your page. It causes browsers to freeze. Say NO to ice pages.
Try not to use a lot of profanity on your page. No one wants to read bitch this, ass that, shit this, and fuck you. So, ease up on the swearing. It's not cute.
Keep your graphics organized. No one wants to see a million and one things going on at the same time. Save some of it for another graphic. Don't start with a spiderman theme and end up on spongebob.
If you use a free wallpaper as your background, please do not get one that is the color of the rainbow.
Do not use a dark colored background with dark colored text. If you select a navy blue background, do NOT use black text. If you think black text looks good with navy blue, do yourself a favor and pick up a box of crayolas. No one wants to highlight your page just to read it.
If you are positioning items, add a one pixel border to them in a color that stands out and use them as guides. After you have the perfect position for your table/div/iframe/fieldset , remove the borders.
Please, please, please do not TyP3 L1k3 Th15 on your entire page and expect people to take you seriously. Personally, I find it very annoying.
Do not link images from your hard drive. You will only be able to see them from your computer. If anyone tells you that they could see your layout on your page when it's linked to your hard drive, let them know that you don't roll with liars and end the friendship. You can NOT link images from your computer at any time and expect others to see them. If you think I'm misleading you, then turn off your computer and send it back to where it came from.
Spellcheck! If you spell table as tadle or position as positon, you will not get the result you are looking for. Sometimes you may overlook small spelling errors. Overlooking them will cause problems. Pay attention to where you add : and ;. You may not understand it now but that will make a big difference if they are not used properly.

Do be patient - good sites don't magically appear overnight.
Do download/buy a good graphics program like Jasc Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop to use.
Do keep practising making graphics/layouts and trying out new tutorials.
Do use colours that are web-safe and look practically the same on most people's computers.
Do try and prevent pop ups on your site as much as possible.
Do have a lot of original content for your visitors.
Do sign guestbooks if people sign yours (I'm guilty of not doing this though lol).
Do plug people who comment on your site.
Do give your visitors as many options as possible - from opening pages in new windows to choosing the links.
Do make your site easy to navigate.
Do use an original and striking name for your site.

Learning the secrets of interesting blogging is important to keep your visitors coming back :) I've put together some general tips to keep your blogs interesting and lively.
Don't make your blogs few and far between. Try to spend a few minutes blogging 3/4 times a week at least.
Let your visitors know if you're on hiatus or get ill.
Don't make your blogs stupidly long. Some are long enough to become novels!
Non-expert bloggers usually have sentences like this: '...on saturday i went out and i bought a cd it was nelly furtado i love nelly dont you think shes a great singer my friend doesnt like her but i have her album and after that we went to eat at mc donalds and i had a strawberry milkshake not a coke like i normally do coz i wasnt that thirsty we went to look at more shops i didnt buy anything else oh no wait i bought some chewing gum but i didnt like the taste of it so...' - but with more grammar/spelling errors. No way would you actually SPEAK like that, so don't type like that either! Shorten your sentences :P
Make sure the text is easy to read. If the background is too 'fussy' (too heavily patterned), then change it to make it more tansparent. Remember what looks easy to read to you may be completely different on other computers or for other people!
Don't g overboard and blog lots and lots. Give people time to make comments :)
Either set up Greymatter or Blogger. If you don't have CGI access, then try Yaccs, and easy way to get comments on your blog :). Or, you could always try a tag-baord, but either way, leave something for people to post a message about your blogs
